From farm fields to workbenches, items like plump cabbages and potatoes, sweet soft-fleshed yams, golden millet, lively chickens, ducks, geese, and pigeons, crimson hawthorns, crisp apples, and meticulously carved wood sculptures and silky vermicelli took center stage on an “auction block” powered by the enthusiastic bids of hospital teammates.

From Fields to Stage: Ordinary Items, Extraordinary Sentiment

“This lamb I raised myself, fed right at home—look how well it’s grown!” beamed one kidney friend preparing for the auction. For many, moderate labor is vital therapy for body and mind. Seeing their hand-grown apples and hawthorns, home-raised poultry, or carefully chiseled woodwork appreciated and purchased brought a sense of achievement far beyond monetary value.
